EBAN proposes the creation of an
European Business Angels Week
The success of the French and Portuguese National Business Angels Weeks, organised in France in November 2006 and in Portugal from the 12 th to the 16 th March 2007 by the Portuguese National Federation of Business Angels Associations (Federação Nacional de Associações de Business Angels - FNABA), was an inspiration for the European Business Angels Network (EBAN) representatives.
Anthony Clarke, president of the European association, considered the possibility of duplicating the experience through a European Business Angels Week as a way to promote the activity, and challenged the next Portuguese European Union presidency, in the second semester of this year, to take the initiative.
“Business angel market growth is vital to fulfil the Lisbon Agenda goals by 2010. Therefore, the message of this congress goes to the Portuguese European Union presidency, starting in June, urging them to start initiatives that promote a greater recognition of these investment possibilities", stated Anthony Clarke in his closing address of the 7 th EBAN Congress, that gathered in Estoril nearly three hundred participants from all over the world.
“France and Portugal have already created their own business angels weeks. Maybe in the future we will have a European Week. It would be a good occasion to promote training for business angels and prevent them from wasting good business. But we need to highlight that, without tax incentives, business angels cannot invest as much in start-ups, so the situation in Europe also has to change in that regard", concluded the president of EBAN.
